Laces
• The leather laces are high quality wax impregnated latigo leather. They are strong and comfortable.
• The hemp laces are a soft braided hemp that actually get a little tighter when they get wet, which can often be a good thing.
• The 10mm wide leadville leather laces feel more secure and are stronger than the other laces.
• All our traditional laces are 72 inches long (includes extra length for reties).
• Individual orders of elasticized laces are 40 inches long (includes extra length for reties).

I'm looking to be running very fast. What are the best laces to use?
Running on pavement: The 1/2 elasticized laces will be your best bet. You're able to get these laces nice and snug while still being comfortable. After being tied correctly, they should never need adjusting while running.
Running on trails: The Leadville laces. While sprinting through rough, muddy, or steep terrain the Leadvilles won't budge. The width of the material gives a very secure feeling allowing more confidence while moving quickly.
And another pro-tip, before any big race make sure to check the knot on the bottom of the sandal is fresh. The last thing you want is to break a lace during a race where single seconds matter. Good luck!
Question:
I see that the laces loop under the sole of the sandals. Don't they wear out quickly, especially on asphalt?
No, the lace going through the holes on the side of the sandal will not wear out. As the sandal forms to your foot, those side holes will lift off the ground slightly, creating minimal friction on the lace.
The knot on the bottom of the sandal will eventually wear out, usually after a hundred miles or so, depending on terrain, stride, running speed, and technique. When it does break, all you have to do is pull more lace (spare tire) through the toe hole, tie it in a knot, then re-tie your sandal. You can check out Tying Your Equus Laces, for more info on tying knots.
Question:
How thick are the standard black leather laces?
The standard black leather laces are 1/4 of an inch wide and 2-3mm thick.
Question:
What is the length and diameter of the hemp laces?
The hemp laces are 72 inches in length and the diameter is 6 mm.
Question:
How does hemp laces compare to standard leather laces?
Leather vs Hemp laces
I wouldn't say one is better than the other, I think they are both comfortable. The hemp dosen't stretch and constricts a tiny bit when it's wet which I think is actually kind of an advantage when its really wet out for it to get a little tighter. The hemp is also a little softer, some people who have had issues with lace discomfort have liked the hemp better than the leather saying it dosent bother their skin as much. The leather has a tiny bit of stretch to it which can be nice for taking it on and off and getting it snug but not too tight. The knot on the bottom wears out at a very similar rate for both of them.
Question:
Does cutting the elasticized laces to size cause them to fray?
No. There may be a little piece of thread that may need trimmed off but it won't really fray.
Also, you may already know this but, it is a good idea to keep some extra lace at the end so that when the knot on the bottom breaks you have some room to pull the lace through the hole and tie a new knot and still have room to tie the sandals at the the other end.
Question:
When ordering equus laces is quantity 1 a pair or do I need to order quantity 2 to get 2 laces?
All laces come in pairs.
Question:
My Lunas came with elasticized laces and I'd like to try traditional leather laces. Will the longer slits on the sides for the elasticized laces be a problem with the narrower laces?
Thank you for your question! The slits on the sides of the sandals we actually started doing long before the elasticized laces became available. We found this slit was beneficial to the multidirectional forces of the laces on the sides of the sandal, then it just happened to work well with the wider laces as well. Ultimately it was a lucky coincidence.

Weight
?
All sandal weights are for mens size 9 and are measured per pair, without laces. Lace weights are also per pair. (Exception: The ATS is weighed with laces included.)
|
Comfort
?
Comfort includes how the laces feel between your toes and overall feeling of the laces against your feet.
|
Durability
?
Describes how strong each lace is, not the life expectancy of the knot. With our new lacing system, all knots have a long life expectancy.
|
Ease of Use
?
Describes how easy it is to tie your laces. Elasticized laces are usually easiest because they come ready to slip on and only require minor adjustments.
|
Security
?
All laces will hold your foot securely when tied properly; however, in wet conditions or on trails, traditional leather laces are the most secure option.
